About me - Crafty Cupid

Hello I'm Alice and I am the writer and creator of Crafty Cupid. I live in Berkshire, UK; with two sweet but smelly cats and loving long term partner, who I call Mr.C. He has used his computer brain to help get this site sorted, which I am very grateful for. Thank you sweetie! By day I work at a Nursery which keeps me energetic and smiley every single day! My evenings are a mixture of housework, going to the gym, nights in watching movies and nights out eating, drinking and dancing!

Why Crafty Cupid?

I was driving through to a car park one evening, thinking about having my own website and what I would call it. When all of a sudden it came to me - Crafty Cupid. I like crafts and I've always liked Cupid, the creator of love, as I like to think I bring a lot of love into my life. Also Cupid can be Crafty with love sometimes, so I went home, did a domain search and Crafty Cupid was mine!

How I got involved in crafts?

Sometimes I think I got into art and craft purely by accident!! When I was at school I was never one for Art or anything like that. It was'nt really untill I was 19, I was unemployed and had to save every penny I did'nt have for a far away holiday booked that Christmas. I filled my days making Christmas cards out of scrap pieces of card, sticking on sequins and drawing Christmas faries. I quickly made a card for each of my family and then I wanted to make more, so made some for friends too! It felt like a mini challenge that I would always win! Since then I've done all sorts of things; cushions, paintings, collage and visual journaling. My most faveourite thing to do is make things with my hands, recycling works best!

Why I love crafts

I've always had lots going on in my life and am quite an emotional person, I also live away from friends so expressing myself and finding release in something is very important to me. I see art and craft as not just a hobby but a therapy too. I am not someone who has lots of money for the luxuries in life and just like any hobby, crafting can get expensive! Early on I got down about it and Mr.C told me 'Work with what you have and find out as much information that you can for free' and I did just that and have come along way since then.

My bigest inspirations

My first break through in finding more about crafts was plugging an old I Pod full of Craft Sanity Podcasts, I could listen for free to American writer and crafter Jennifer Ackerman interview successful crafters all about themselves and their bussiness. This gave me joy through boring housework! I also listened to Sister Diane of Crafty Pod on my way back from work to get new ideas for projects.

Through the podcasts I heard about two artists who have the same kind of style as me. I've always thought my art has a child like element; its messy, colourful, I draw cartoon people and love mixing materials. I often visit the blog of Violette Clarke and I'm making my way through the many imagnitave fun books by SARK.

What I want people to get out of Crafty Cupid

This site is for anybody, you don't have to like crafts or art, you could be one of those people who simply says 'I can't draw'. I like writing about other creative subjects so I hope to entertain, inspire and to make people smile!
