Finally- My first Frida on canvas

Article By Alice

Since last weeks, Frida Kahlo related posts; http://www.craftycupid.com/index.php/cc/entry/tissue-paper-flower-tutorial/" title="tissue paper flowers">tissue paper flowers and http://www.craftycupid.com/index.php/cc/entry/how-to-frida-paper-chain/" title="Frida paper chains">Frida paper chains , I haven't really had the time to follow up any more.

I'm in the process of setting up my own Art and Craft group, locally to me, it's full name is -Artists and Crafter support Bracknell. It's not as catchy as it could be, but I want to get the point across that a monthly meet up of young crafters and creators can be fun and freeing. I've almost secured a venue, to find out more visit my Group Spaces Page.

Another newbie in my creative life is the amazing book 'The Artists Way' which is also taking up my time, morning pages, gotta love em.

Frida's Face on canvas

So onto the real news, da dah! I've painted a proper painting onto canvas. A big step in the right direction from http://www.craftycupid.com/index.php/cc/entry/small-office-crafts-so-far/" title=" my first ever painting"> my first ever painting!

I usually paint in a sketch book, lying flat on my table, this time I propped up the canvas and stood painting till the light faded.

The funny thing is my favourite parts of the painting came from making mistakes- the background, the leaves. I'll work on face shading more next time, that's another story.

The quote at the top isn't one I usually see on paintings but means the most to me at this time, metaphorically:

“I tried to drown my sorrows, but the bastards learned how to swim, and now I am overwhelmed by this decent and good feeling.”- Frida Kahlo
