New year new….Art Quilt

Article By Alice

A few days before New Years Eve, I had been wondering what I could change or make in our bedroom, to make it look brighter and more cosy.

One tired evening (the eve of new years eve), I had it, the idea I needed, the wall behind our bed hung long maroon curtains on a stretchy elastic cable, an interchangeable cable. This meant I could take the dreary curtains off, and put something in it's place.

I took the opportunity as a sign to make another patchwork art quilt and do some more techniques from Traci Bausita's book Collage Unleashed. I gave myself a completion of 2 days (pretty short considering I did the same project spread over 30 days last year.)

My canvas was an old bed sheet cut into squares; I dip dyed them in liquid acrylics, scrape painted them with Tulip fabric paint, pressed bubble wrap on them, drew with crayons, made marks with wrapping paper and much more. I also got back on my machine and did a few funky stitches too.

I wanted the squares to be attached to another piece of material, so I cut some more of the sheet into a long sheet and doodled, free hand with a fabric pen, a novelty picture of me and Mr.C.

Before and after

I recorded a message below with my new years wishes on New Years day, I mention that I've had my hair cut in the video, go my Behance homemade hair cut to find out the full story.
