Painting with polysterene
Article By AliceI opened up a sack of polystyrene, sat in the house almost as long as I've had my cold, originally saved from being put in the bin by Mr.C.
At first for the possibility of carving shapes out of, later we discovered that was Styrofoam and polystyrene breaks easily, the many little balls make it impossible to work with.
I thought, Polystyrene must be usable somehow, so I tried it out in my sketch book.
I painted one page with a background of finger painted patches of colour, then added blue paint on top and scraped most of it away. While it looked interesting, it didn't exactly scream- paint me with polystyrene!
I carried on, I broke pieces of polystyrene up and painted on the bumpy surface to make mini blue frames.
It was either- give up or go for it, so I used more polystyrene, this time on a blank page and moved my hands in quick motions to get different patterns.

The chunky piece with blue paint, I made blue squares to add words in.
The piece with purple on, I painted on purple acrylic and slid in downwards, I also put blue paint on the sides to make lined streaks.
Green Acrylic straight from the tube was put on a polystyrene rectangle, and pressed then quickly released and repeated on the page.
I also tried orange Liquid acrylics on a piece and turned it around with my hand to make circles.
A small broken poly piece was used to finish of the rectangular frame I spontaneously made, by putting red paint in each corner and dragging it along the page.
I played with polystyrene, I love experimenting!
