When I became a Yes! woman
Article By Alice‘Si a Todo’ – Say yes to everything! Is the thing that will stay in your mind after you’ve read this book.
As well as lifting my spirits in this cold weather, reading Yes Man has inspired me, oddly. It isn’t written by a celebrity fighting their demons and telling me they have made it through everything. Nor is it the wise words from a Dr. or life coach saying ‘Positive thinking is the way!’ or ‘Get fit and feel fabulous’.
No, it is from the life of a man, a man called Danny Wallace. Who, while on a bus replacement service as the trains were halted (we’ve all been there!) He got chatting to a man that simply told him ‘Say Yes More’ and that’s exactly what he did, just a bit further than a bit more, try a whole year! This book will have you laughing aloud thinking ‘Oh, I can’t believe that actually happened!’ and the other great thing is, if he hadn’t of said yes to all the crazy things, would he become a presenter, author and produce a film with Jim Carrey in? I think not. I could say more but I don’t want to give the story away- just buy, borrow or blag it and if you’re not a reader, then watch the film.
A message I also got, other than be more open to new opportunities as they could lead to great things; is that saying no is what makes us human in a way. Unnecessary junk mail that pops up in your inbox, scams and mail asking if you would like to take out yet another credit card? Shows you don’t need to say yes to everything. I used to say yes to a lot of things, because once upon a time I was shy and didn’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings. My point is, don’t say yes for the wrong reasons say it because you want to.
Last year I said yes to a few things, only this year I want the list to be much longer. I said yes to volunteering at a lunch club for the elderly when I noticed their add in the paper, yes to attending a local church Sunday service to hear the incredible story of the Jelly fish Man. And my favorite would be saying yes to a in a photo shoot for breast cancer awareness, which I spotted in the paper, and posing for ages in the nicest underwear I’ve ever had!
So although I have got a few Yes’s under my belt, there a year old and there’s plenty of room for new Yes’s. The only trouble is I can’t say yes willy-nilly, I can’t jet off to Barcelona, buy a car or even a blender, at the moment is my budget is tight- too tight. So I’m going to do it in small stages- I could say yes to that Aerobics leaflet posted a few weeks ago, attend a free card making workshop and just hope for the best and more!
Here’s what you could do:
- Scan through the free papers to see if you can find any free events or deals. It could be to join the local choir, free community workshops, free £10 shop at Morrisons etc.
- Do you want to enter a free competition? I think ..Yes! Look closer at bottles of fizzy drinks and tins of food, because you just never know if you could win.
- If you have a bit of money there are many things you could say yes to. Yes to a Sunday buffet, buying a pet in need of a home, to going to the annual work do, yes to the first travel agent which asks if you want to find a holiday or even just yes when you get asked if you could buy a big issue.
What ever YES you chose, have fun!
Below is some of my faveourite pictures from India, where me and Mr.C spent a magical Christmas and new year in Goa!
Myself by a rock at Paloem Beach, Goa
The nicest, quietest beach you will find in Goa- Agonda
The two of us at Candolim, an abandoned ship is in the back ground- my favorite photo!
Feeding monkeys at Bhagawan wildlife center
Me and Mr.C at the bottom of Dudshagen Waterfall- the most refreshing swim I’ve ever had!
Vagator beach Goa, Im sat by the huge face carved in rock
Watch out for the wave! Arambol beach, our last stop to bring in the new year and favorite beach
Accomodation in Arambol, it was above a shop and cheap, although a loud cockerel woke us up early every day! Opposite was a super market for snacks and cakes from stalls nearby for breki. An awesome view of the palm trees while showering too! To see more photos of India, please go to the home page and click on Flickr or visit http://www.toodla.com and look through blog posts!
